Established in 1999, The motto of establishment of Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research institute was to provide tertiary level health care to its citizens and for quality medical education to the student’s community. Having achieved laurels for establishing superior standards in providing civic amenities to the denizens of Surat, the Corporation realized the need for the establishment of a medical college in the city, which could provide quality medical services and excellent medical education. Thus, the corporation started this prestigious project and this has culminated into SMIMER as we see today. SMIMER was established with an annual intake of 100 students, after obtaining permission from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
