Established in 1997, Named after the fourth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Ram Das Ji, the founder of holy city of Amritsar, the Institute of Medical Sciences & Research was started in the year 1997. The first batch passed out in December, 2002. Initially, the Institute was affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot (upto Admission Batch 2016) and now it is affiliated to Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences, Sri Amritsar (from Admission Batch 2017 onwards).

The MBBS degree is duly recognized by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, vide Letter No. U.12012/224/2015-ME.1 [FTS.130652] Dated 28-03-2018. The clinical teaching of medical students is conducted at Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital, Vallah. This hospital has all the latest equipment and facilities for 150 M.B.B.S. admissions and Post Graduate (MD/MS) courses in several clinical, para-clinical and basic subjects.
