NEW DELHI: On the eve of the NEET UG 2026 exam, a student living in his hostel allegedly died by suicide- once again shining a spotlight on issues like academic pressure, mental health and cut-throat competition for coaching.

The student from Uttarakhand was reportedly preparing for NEET in Kota for almost two years. He supposedly leaped off the roof of his accommodation building in the Kunhadi area. Police said that the incident took place a few hours before the examination, and investigations are on, with exam pressure and mental distress being major aspects under lens.

This tragic case is not at all unique. City of Kota has in the past reported such incidents, with the popular coaching destination in India bringing such pressures into sharp focus.

Rising Pressure Among NEET Aspirants

Along with this, the aspirants also leave their home to Prep(with a live example, Kota) too where;

  • Academic competition

  • Performance anxiety

Investigations are still underway, but authorities said there was also a suicide note, which suggests emotional distress and lack of preparedness in the recent case.
